Prior Weston is commemorating its 50th anniversary this year. The school started under the headship of Henry Pluckrose, the so-called 'Journey-man teacher' who believed very much in the arts in the broadest sense of the word and that “Children … learn by moving about, by discovering, by handling, by feeling, rather than by sitting at a desk and being told.”
As a school we have chosen to interweave the children’s learning this term, with projects, trips and curriculum themes aimed to raise awareness about the history of Prior Weston, the first head teacher Henry Pluckrose and the area in which the school is located. Nicholas Hare Architects will also be in school to do model-making with the students. The children will then showcase their work in an assembly at 9:30, on the 17th October.
The day activities will then be followed by an evening reception for adults, from 6-8pm where we will host past and current parents, staff, members of the local community, head teachers, local MP’s, alumni and people linked to the school. There will also be a music performance, light food and beverages served.
It would be great to have you celebrating with us.
Please let me know if you will be coming with anyone else so I can have an idea of numbers.
