Dear All,

Hope all is well? My name is Ash Rahman, and I am the CEO of a local community, youth and sports community interest company (CIC) called Pro Touch SA. We are based in Camden, but delivery various services across 8 different London Boroughs, and now established for over 12 years having rebranded from Pro Touch Soccer Academy last year in March.

We are keen to apply for a small pot of funding to City of London, to try and deliver a project targeting the Golden Lane Estate and possibly operation from the Community Centre as well as maybe also using the Sports Centre nearby.

I am keen to learn if there are any current services FREE or Paid available to local families with children and young people on the GLE?

Do you know any children and young people would be interested in community youth and or sports activities?.

The multi-sport and youth activities will available to both boys and girls aged between seven and 19 with the aim of engaging more youngsters with sport and youth (includes arts as well), whilst also building on life skills helping to improve confidence, self-esteem and ambition.

The sessions will include a number of different activities, including fencing, fitness, football, and will also involve an educational training and workshops.

The fun, engaging and challenging sessions can be very rewarding for the youngsters, who may also be able to enter local competitions later in 2019 with progression and development where possible with the Pro Touch or local partnering organisations.

There will also opportunities to volunteer or help running the multi-sport and youth activities, and, in the process, the volunteers could gain sports and youth work awards and qualifications.

As you may know that despite stating in the planning and listed buildings applications for the refurbishment of the Community Centre that there were no plans to move the Estate Office there they appear to have been planning this all along. Because the planning permission did not permit them to move it in they have been forced to apply for change of use planning permission for the part of the building that they want to use.

The reason for moving the office is to provide more social housing in the base of Great Arthur House but we now learn that one of the flats is going to be used by St Barts and will do nothing to reduce the housing waiting list. Both are valuable uses but the City is essentially giving the Estate Office away to an organisation that is undergoing the biggest PFI contract in the country and which is not short of space.

I am opposed to this because the centre has always been for community use and a part of a valuable community resource is being taken away from us. There are other reasons. The office is too small for all the housing office staff. It has been suggested that the staff hot desk but what do the staff who don’t get a desk do? Huddle under canopies when it is raining? The new office has no windows at eye level so the desire of the staff to hide away that manifested itself when they put mirrored film over the windows of the existing office will make a comeback. Lastly the change may affect the financial position of the Community Centre as it may have to pay business rates which it previously would not.

My main fear is that this is the thin edge of a wedge and the Estate Office will find in the future that it needs more space and as time goes on we may not have a community centre left.

If you are not happy with this please go to the application page at http://www.planning2.cityoflondon.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=P8PH13FHH3Q00 and make your views known.

Just a few words to say a big thank you to everyone involved in organizing events, preparing the hall, food etc and clearing up afterwards.
The Swing Dance was fun, the quiz suitably challenging , the magician a delight , the fire engine and firefighters, the mounted police with beautiful horses.
So much work goes into creating an event. So thank you very much. Let us look forward to getting our Community Centre back after the exciting refurbishment.

Dear Golden Lane Estate

I am not a resident here but an architecture student - I hope you don't mind my joining and posting hereby. I tried to contact you / GLERA through the email address goldenlane@cityoflondon.gov.uk which I was given when I phoned the estate office but I'm not sure the message will have gotten through:

I'm helping to organise an event called Open Garden Estates coming up in a few weeks across London - 18th-19th June

http://opengardenestates.com/

Open Garden Estates is an opportunity for residents to open up their estate’s green areas, communal spaces and private gardens to the public, and help change the widely held but inaccurate perception of council estates as ‘concrete jungles’. Walking tours for visitors for example are designed to show each estate in its best light, to highlight how well they are designed, and increased awareness of the strong and mixed communities that live on them.

I just wondered if either the allotments or chess club activities I've heard about - or any other space/group of Golden Lane might be interested in taking part in Open Garden Estates by welcoming the public for a morning or afternoon on the 18th or 19th of June.

Myself or one of our volunteers could come and chat to anyone who would be interested and maybe expand the afternoon by adding a reading or something relating to the social or architectural history of the estate or to any of the current residents initiatives / interests.

Apologies for the long message (and the short notice!). I hope that you will feel free to ask anything if you might be interested in taking part.

Thanks and Kind Regards

Hello,

I am writing to let the Golden Lane community know about an event that the City’s Department of Community and Children’s Services will be holding on Sunday 20 July. As you may know we have historically held a fun day called City Life for children and families every September in Leadenhall Market. The Community Fair will be a bigger event for all ages and held here in the Guildhall Yard. The concept for the day is loosely based on a summer fete with a full-sized festival stgae and market stalls run by local groups and organisations. Our aim is for residents from all corners of the City to come together and if possible get involved too.

Updates about performers and other content will be posted regularly on the FYi Facebook page

Acts confirmed so far include the Belles of London City female Morris dancers, and Apollo 5 - an acapella vocal group. We are also hoping to secure at least one very special guest.

Lots of the children's activities from City Life will be at the Fair, such as facepainting, crafts, soft play and balloon modelling. We will also have a fun fair tea-cup ride! There will be plenty for older residents too, including a licensed bar.

If you would like to run a stall or activity at the event I would love to hear from you. Otherwise please just come along and enjoy the day!

For any more information about the event please contact me directly, either through here or by email will.cooper@cityoflondon.gov.uk or phone 020 7332 3126.
City of London Brass Band to launch at St Giles' Cripplegatetag:goldenlaneestate.org,2013-10-14:2323372:Topic:374582013-10-14T23:25:08.366ZMartyn Stogdenhttp://goldenlaneestate.org/profile/MartynStogden
