Event Description

Explore the Charterhouse and Smithfield in a sketchbook day. Delight in our tranquil gardens before venturing to nearby Smithfield market to sketch streets and Victorian buildings. Working in pen, wash and pencil come and explore this hidden part of London. Suitable for all levels.

The day long workshop offers participants a chance to explore this fascinating area of London. Start in the private Charterhouse gardens before moving into Charterhouse square with its perfect view of the main entrance and fine trees. Then, enjoy a walk through the square into Smithfield to tackle the streets and buildings of the Victorian meat market before returning to the Charterhouse for a final drawing inside our majestic buildings. Work to capture the essence of our unique location in a series of many sketches. Please prepare for the weather as this workshop involves working outside.

Your tutor, James Willis, is well known for his stunning paintings of London most recently exhibited his work from ‘The London Paintings’ at the OXO Gallery in London. 

Please bring a sketch book (minimum size A4) and drawing pens, plus sketching stool if desired. Cost £50
