Event Description

Award-winning writer Jenny Mitchell will offer two stimulating poetry workshops that aim to examine the elusive concept of Freedom. Can creative writing help us feel more carefree in a world that seems increasingly chaotic? Is it possible to write ourselves into a space where we're free to deepen our sense of identity, resilience and ultimately Joy? Open to all. No former experience of writing poems necessary.

Dates: Saturday 19th October & Saturday 26th October, 10.30 am -12.30 pm
Location: Barbican Library - in person event

15 places are available to book for each date. Please ask at the Barbican Library Enquiry desk or call us on 020 7638 0569.

Jenny Mitchell is currently the Inaugural Poet in the Community at the British Library, working with the Engagement Team. She won the Ink, Sweat and Tears May Poetry Competition in 2024, the Shooter Poetry Competition in 2023, the Gregory O’Donoghue Prize in 2022, and the Poetry Book Awards in 2021 for her second collection, Map of a Plantation (on the syllabus at Manchester Metropolitan University). The prize-winning debut collection, Her Lost Language, is One of 44 Poetry Books for 2019 (Poetry Wales), and her latest collection, Resurrection of a Black Man, contains three prize-winning poems and is featured on the US podcast Poetry Unbound.
