Building work is well underway to restore the Community Centre for a variety of uses including providing a home for community and educational facilities.

A steering group comprising Golden Lane residents and City of London corporation officers is working to develop the project. Updates are provided in regular newsletters.

Latest Developments

Saturday 4 November: A group of residents met to discuss the latest Golden Lane Community Centre Developments. Earlier in the year, Locality, a specialist charity who work with community groups, was commissioned by the steering group to  produce a proposal to show how residents can run the centre. The key points of the report were presented, setting out a vision the vision for a community centre as a social hub run by a Centre Manager and Trustees. Read more here.

The City of London considered the proposals and mid November agreed a way forward. The steering committee will set up a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) which will require a constitution, bank account and Board of Trustees. If you are interested in becoming a trustee (financial or legal background particularly useful) please contact goldenlane.communitycentre@gmail.com.

There will also be an Advisory Group made up of City of London officers, Trustees and potentially others, who will be responsible for strategic decision making. Initially the City of London will appoint a full time manager with recruitment input from the Steering Group / Trustees.

In order for the Community Centre to cover its costs the current business plan indicates it will need to raise between £30 and £40K in corporate sponsorship, grants, fund raising etc.

The first fund raising event was the Christmas Market on Saturday 9 December where £400 was raised.
