The City YMCA is due to leave the Barbican YMCA building next summer, just after the Olympics.

I think this will be an immense relief to my neighbours who directly overlook the site, which has been the cause of great disturbance in recent years, and some relief to others nearby, including myself.

The City is looking for other occupiers of this hostel space and is giving the YMCA a soft exit by waiving £1.6m of delapidations (i.e. end of lease repairs) which it could insist on.

But what then happens to the building? It is not clear what the vision for this site is.

Are the residents of the estate most affected by this site being consulted (and the residents of Baribcan who overlook as well)?
