Labour common councilman for Portsoken William Taylor is a member of the Community and Children's Service Committee. At its meeting last week the Corporation's new policy under the Care Act 2014 was discussed.

William reports: The recent Census identified 576 carers living in the City where nearly 80% of these provide care for a family member or friend for up to 20 hours a week. Many of whom are also working and living stressful lives.

Currently the City Corporation is only in touch with 53 individuals who are recognised as carers and it wants to reach out to the rest to find ways of supporting them. Carers play a vital role in supporting vulnerable adults and enabling them to stay in their own homes and local communities. However, caring can have an impact on a carer’s own health and wellbeing and so the City Corporation realises that it is critically important that they receive the support and services they need.

If you are a carer or you know of a carer that may need help please let us know. You can talk to one of your local councillors or email Ian Tweedie, Team Manager – Adult Social Care  Ian.Tweedie@cityoflondon.gov.uk
