The Friends of City Gardens are a community group of volunteers who work with the corporation gardeners to improve and maintain the green spaces and gardens in the City. We also work with schools and the City Housing Estates where people want to get gardening or growing food.
Ideas for Golden Lane estate.
We have two thousand bulbs donated to use, tulips and narcissi. These need planting as soon as possible. So we will be inviting volunteers to help plant some of them on Sunday 9th plus giving away bulbs for your balcony/ window boxes.
As part of the City in Bloom for 2014 we are working with the school to plant pollinators. Again we will be giving sunflower seeds and working with the children of the estate to plant their own sunflower and watch it grow.
Plant your balconies with lots of Golden pollinators this year and enter City in Bloom
1914-1918 Rememberance poppy planting.
We are looking to use the strip of Basterfield previously used for wildflower planting for a Poppy planting over the four years to 1918. We are also thinking of a project involving the school children and residents of Golden lane Estate who may have photographs and memorabilia we could copy to create a ' book of remembrance ' display on the wall behind the poppy planting.
