Hi there, I am a Birmingham university student currently writing my dissertation and i am focusing on the Golden lane estate. I am hoping that you all as residents can help me out!

For a little context, The second world war left huge scars across Britain. The bombing had either destroyed or made uninhabitable a million homes and there was a major housing shortage. I am researching Le corbusier's theories of modern architecture which were used when rebuilding london's social housing projects. For those who don't know Le corbusier, many of his theories were used when building the golden Lane estate, mainly with regards to the pre fabrication of the flats as well as the use of materials. I am looking at whether a modernist building, built with the purpose of functional living as highest importance, is actually functional and liveable today.

Questions i would like to be answered:

Whats your address?

Is it just you or are there other occupants in the one flat?

Did you know much about the estate before you moved there?

Why golden Lane Estate?

How did you manage to get a flat there? Have you lived here long?

Describe your flat with focus on space, light, materials. ( are kitchen and bathrooms modern? are walls repainted?)

Is there space for your own furniture? Is it an easy space to make a home?

How is the council as a landlord?

What are the neighbours like? Is there a sense of community?

Best thing about living there?

And the worst? If you could change something about the estate/flat what would it be?

If anyone is interested in helping me out, can you please email me with a few words for the questions to Rebeccaannclegg@gmail.com
