Thanks Christo.

This is the sort of information only someone living in the various flats would know. I realise that it's difficult to compel leaseholders to comply with any changes but I would hope that most people would be willing to keep themselves and their neighbours safe. In the end it may require legislation. Plenty to think about.We also need some action.

To quote our Alderman, David Graves:

The insulating material being used at GAH is called Fixrock 035LB which, encouragingly, is a mineral based product in the (safest, non-combustible) A1 category under European Standard EN 13501 - 1. The standard is explained in the document via the link below:

Clearly, one needs to assess the fire resilience of the complete system, but it is good to learn that the insulation material used in the refurbishment of GAH is not of the flammable variety. 

The City Corporation is re-examining fire safety and fire procedures for its housing stock and I am also confident that the issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the City Corporation's Housing Management Sub-Committee.
