Hi all,
This afternoon someone cut the cable of my wife's bike which is locked up under Stanley Cohen house. The 'D' lock held but one wheel and the frame are bent - it's completely inoperable.
This happened around 4pm on Sunday afternoon (12/6). There's not a lot one can do to prevent someone who really wants to nick a bike, but we're surprised considering the time and the busy location right next to the main entrance off Golden Lane.
Please keep your eyes out for any suspicious activity to save someone else the hassle we've now got to go through...

Hi Nick
thanks for the notice. There have been two bike thefts and two attempted bike thefts from the same store in the last couple of years and all occurred on Saturday night/Sunday morning. This really underlines again the requirement for better bike stands or lockable bike storage areas.

Hi Nick
Yes, I agree. Cycle security has been an issue on the estate for a few years and estate staff are aware of the problem. They have investigated purchase of cycle lockers, conversion of basement areas into bike stores (e.g. Bowater) and purchase of better bike stands. However so far no results.

Sorry to hear about more thefts. Our bike has literally been stripped bare from under Crescent House within the bike store/next to the pub. Earlier this year the brakes, then seat, the pedals were taken over a period of a weeks. All the allen key/removable parts were glued up to prevent it happening again. Then after returning from holiday we discovered everything except the frame had been nicked! It was a really good bike . . . insurance may not cover it this time. (The first bike was nicked overnight at Aldersgate St entrance.) Makes you slightly depressed!
