Hi there,

I'm studying interior architecture and design at Canterbury, and would appreciate if you could take a few minutes of your time to help me out with my research.

I have been set a project in 'Exhibit' on the promenade of Crescent house, which aims to turn the shop into a space for an artists residency. I have decided to base the concept of my design around recycling and reusing across the Golden Lane estate.

I am aware that you already recycle household waste, and have read a little about the 'Salvage' scheme, which I am very interested in and have already enquired about. As far as i'm aware, they only deal in original features from apartments. I have also seen that people in the community trade amongst yourselves, on here for example.

My project would involve old furniture being donated/sold to the artist, who would then turn these pieces into sculptural art, to then be sold on/displayed in the shop. The interior of the space would also be constructed from reused furniture from the Estate, to give the space character and reflect the individuality, yet sense of community that I feel in the area.

1. Do you already have a place to recycle/dispose of unwanted furniture (other than salvage)?

2. Do you think a scheme like this would be well accepted in the community?

3. Do you have any other suggestions/information that would help with my research?

Obviously the project is hypothetical, but i would appreciate your time and input nonetheless. You never know, if it's good enough, it could become a reality!

Thanks for your help!

Katie
