City of London Police are continuing to question a 25 year old man who was arrested after an incident near a Farringdon night club on Sunday morning (June 24) in which a man suffered a fatal stab injury.

Thirty officers and police staff are now working on the case and a major incident room to support the inquiry has been established at police headquarters in Wood Street.

Police are continuing to appeal for information following the incident at 8.15am when officers on Charterhouse Street EC1 became aware of a disturbance close to Raduno nightclub involving a group of men and women.

On arrival at the scene they found a man on the pavement with a stab wound to the chest. The man, aged 33, was taken to an east London Hospital but was pronounced dead around 90 minutes later.

A 25 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. A further two men and two women who were arrested later and bailed without charge.

Senior investigating officer DCI John Osibote, from the City of London Police, said: ‘We are following a number of lines of enquiry but we continue to appeal to people for any information they may have in connection with this incident to talk to us.

‘If you saw or heard something, no matter how small or trivial it may appear to you, we would urge you to contact us. The area was busy at the time of this incident and there may be people who witnessed something who have not yet come forward.

‘I would like to reassure our communities in the City that crimes of this nature are extremely unusual and it is five years since the force last carried out a murder inquiry.’

If you have any information, please contact the City of London Police on 0207 601 2222. Alternatively you can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and you do not have to give your name.

The City of London Police closed a number of roads in the area after the incident to help facilitate searches by forensic investigation teams.  DCI Osibote continued: ‘We are grateful to residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation while the scene was searched.’

Police are offering support to the family of the man who died. Officers are also on regular patrol and talking to people living and working in the area and are there to provide support to anyone in the community.
