Save Bernard Morgan House

City of London

Just wanted to find out if anyone suffers like me during the winter months, with super poor heating. I had a good look at them the other day and they simple had 3 bars that pass the heat on to a metal grill in front. These aren't strong enough at all.

There are also random gaps all over the house with the heat escaping out.

Last year my wife and I were sleeping fully clothed with socks on. Talk about passion killer and It's costing us a bomb too.

Any other stories people or is it just me?

Not so much a problem with the radiators but plenty wrong with my windows. I also went to bed dressed like an eskimo last year. I have crittall windows which just leak heat all the time. Still, they are getting changed in 2014. Not long to go

These are radiators fitted by the corporation, the whole estate used to be communal heating, but residents complained about the costs being charged by the corporation, so these radiators and individual boilers were fitted to the majority of flats. I have lived here since 1998, and have lived in hatfield house, the studio on baltic street side had an internal wall covered in black mould, the advice i was given was to turn the heating up full in winter and leave the windows open, lol. I now live in Crescent house, and every winter i go through the routine of taping up all the gaps in the windows and have placed strips of wood on the window sills to contain the condensation and stop damage to the floors and my property, i have requested that the window seals be replaced and had one visit from the repair people who did not return to do the work

I forgot to say that if the radiator is not giving out much heat they may need bleeding, this releases any air locked in the radiator and allows the hot water to circulate through all of the radiator.

thats the nature of living under the corporation, they are supposedly replacing boilers, but say they can only fit new boilers that are not combination boilers due to the length of the flues and the appearance of these would be contrary to the wonderful listed building status of the estate , so they are going to spend an absolute fortune fitting new uneconomical boilers that you will have to heat water to store in a tank, and if the water is not used it will go cold again, and you will have to heat it all over again, as apposed to a modern economical combination boiler that will heat the water on demand, so much for our gas bills, and i am sure that the contract will be given to a company at a reasonable cost, that will respect residents of the estate and will have someone competent to monitor the quality of the work, i think not , after nearly 2 years of stress and dealing with the so called decent homes project, new bathroom and kitchen, the low standard of work, a new bath fitted and chipped on day one, left with no cooking facilities for nearly 2 weeks, newly paint peeling of the new plaster in less than 6 months, workmen turning up on the day with no notice, drop everything we are here, forget about anything else you might have organized etc etc Told by the boss of the subtractors who supplied the workers, with his £60,000 range rover parked near by, his latest macbook air and his latest i phone,  "The people here should be grateful, they are not paying for it", this is the usual attitude of contractors on the estate employed by the corporation. I was rang out of the blue by a member of staff doing a random survey about a recent repair, and was asked if the contractor wore floor protection, I didn't know wether to take this as a joke or an insult, as after living here for over ten years no one has ever worn floor protection, and i would be more worried about more serious damage they might cause to my property, lol, have had they use my white towels as an oil and glue rag and tossed on the floor, destroyed my toilet seat, walking away from the property leaving the front door open etc etc, lol

Linbrooks were the pervious maintenance company who lost the contract to the wonderful Inspace, and have now  won the contract back from Inspace, lol

well as long as they receive handsome  payment from the corporation, who cares? they do what they like, its nobodies money, you will have a hard job to get anyone from the corporation to see it from your point of view, lol
