Award winning author and creator of the International Necronautical Society Tom McCarthy will discuss his brilliant work around themes of trauma, identity and media with influential curator and researcher Clare Carolin.
McCarthy’s most recent novel, Satin Island’, was shortlisted for the 2015 Booker Prize as was his previous novel, C, in 2010. His first novel, ‘Remainder’, has just been adapted for cinema. His non-fiction output includes the book ‘Tintin and the Secret of Literature’, exploring themes and patterns of Hergé’s comic books and his essays have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The London Review of Books, Harper’s andArtforum.
He is also founder of the International Necronautical Society, a semi-fictitious, avant-garde network of writers, philosophers and artists whose work has shown at venues including the Palais de Tokyo Paris, Tate Britain and Moderna Museet Stockholm. In 2013 he was awarded the
inaugural Windham Campbell Prize for Fiction by Yale University.
Clare Carolin is Associate Curator at the
Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila; Associate Lecturer at Sotheby’s Institute and the current holder of the AHRC Doctoral Award at the Imperial War Museum and the University of Oxford where she is conducting research into the
representation of war and conflict in contemporary art.
