CHANCE FOR NEWSPAPER DELIVERY

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET A NEWSPAPER DELIVERED EVERY MORNING BEFORE WORK.

HOWEVER, THIS IS SURPRISINGLY DIFFICULT, AS

• NONE OF THE LOCAL NEWSAGENTS DELIVER;
• THE NEWSPAPERS’ OWN DELIVERY SERVICES ARRIVE BEFORE 5.30am, WHEN THEY CAN’T GET INTO THE BUILDING WITHOUT BUZZING. I HAVE ASKED THE ESTATE OFFICE, AND THEY CAN’T BE ISSUED WITH A SECURITY FOB.

I HAVE ASKED A DELIVERY COMPANY WHO DELIVER TO BUSINESSES IN THE SQUARE MILE, AND THEY HAVE SAID THEY COULD ARRANGE A DAILY DELIVERY TO BAYER HOUSE BETWEEN 7 AND 7.30, IF THERE WAS ENOUGH INTEREST:

• THEY CAN DELIVER ANY PAPER;
• THE COST DEPENDS ON NUMBERS, BUT REMEMBER THAT YOU USUALLY GET A BIG DISCOUNT ON THE COVER PRICE OF A NEWSPAPER IF YOU SUBSCRIBE EVERYDAY.

If you are interested please email me on lucy.mccormick@googlemail.com or pop a note into Bayer 46, before Wednesday 29th. Also, if you are already successfully getting a newspaper delivered through another method, do please let me know!

I tried to do this a couple of years ago and successfully used the newsagents opposite Waitrose. However, I often found that they arrived too late for it to make sense. However, if a number of residents were able to guarantee to a newsagents that they would use the service, it might be possible to get these guys or perhaps the one under Crescent House to look at this.
Thanks for this! I will investigate the one by Waitrose.

As I'm sure you've realised, the problem is that there is such a small window of delivery - the building doors are only open for trade between 7-11, and most people head off to work from around 8. So for it to be worthwhile, it really must arrive as close after 7 as possible.

I didn't make this totally clear above, because I essentially cut and paste the text from a poster I am putting up on the building doors - informing passers-by that they can get into our building easily between 7-11 seemed unwise!
Why don't you do a poster for a couple of blocks asking people if they are interested and getting them to say so on this site. It would then be much easier to guage and then collate interest. Set up a new discussion thread just inviting people to express and interest and say which block they are in. The people in Crescent House are always there by 7 so might be interested in offering this service if enough people were interested, on the other hand the guy by Waitrose is also open on Sundays.
I certainly want to drum up interest using this site. I've already put up the posters, asking people to either email me or to put a note through my door. I will definitely also include interest expressed on this site in my assessment - so any one reading this please post!

I don't want to move it totally onto this site though, as (at least on my floor) there are a lot of people that look to be of an age at which they probably aren't comfortable with the internet.
I'd be interested in this, but am in Crescent House not Bayer. Let me know if you get anywhere.
I'm afraid that there was pretty much no interest in this so I am going to let it go dormant for a few years. Sorry, and thanks for your input!

Looks like someone else has fallen foul of this problem.

For the last three weeks, every morning, on the ground outside the main door into Bayer House, someone leaves a rolled up copy of the FT addressed to someone in Great Arthur House.

So, if you are the person in GAH wondering where the delivery is, there is your answer.
