More detailed information will be provided once our press release has been prepared.

There have been a number of thefts of Iphones in and around the area of Fann Street, Golden Lane, Baltic Street and Goswell Road during the past year with an increase in the past week.  These have occured during the evenings by suspects on scooters, pedal cycles and on foot and no force has been used.  No handbag snatches have been reported to police.

Time to make a citizens arrest I suggest???

Have you caught anyone? I experienced a incident that could perhaps have been a lot worse if it were not for the vigilance of my companion, whereby a cyclist came up behind me although I didn't have a phone, perhaps it was to be a bag snatch. I reported it to the CoL police and suggested they look at CCTV which I believe is in place on Aldersgate St and the officer at the end of the line said she would call me back, which I thought odd at the time, and finished the call. She never did call back and I wasn't too happy about it.

Just a warning to GLE residents. I was walking from Barbican Tube to Crescent House (on Aldersgate between the Virgin Active office and the big Barbican sign) last night at 1215 when two riders on a scooter mounted the pavement behind me and attempted to snatch my phone as they rode alongside. I held on and yanked it back, and they took off ahead, up Goswell Road. I reported it to the police, who told me that these snatchings are relatively rare in the City-- they're more of an Islington thing (I guess because it's more densely populated there). They're investigating CCTV but no one is very hopeful the criminals will be caught.

Anyway, please be careful when using phones on the pavement.
