Regulation of Sexual Entertainment Venues - Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 as amended by the Policing and Crime Act 2009

The City of London intends to adopt the provisions of the above legislation which will enable it to regulate such venues accordingly. Sexual entertainment venues include lap dancing, pole dancing, table dancing, strip shows and live sex shows.

Currently there are no premises in the City that offer this form of entertainment on a regular basis. Previously, it has been the City’s policy not to grant licences to any such establishments. Responsibility for this legislation lies with the City of London Licensing Committee and the Department of Environmental Services. The Licensing Committee is due to consider its future policy with regards to these establishments at a special meeting on 14th June 2010. The Court of Common Council will also need to approve any decision relating to future policy at its meeting on 15th July.

Should you wish to make any representation concerning the number of sexual entertainment venues that should be allowed in the City, please contact the Licensing Team either by email at licensing@cityoflondon.gov.uk, ring on 020 7332 3406, or in writing to:

City of London
Licensing Service
Environmental Health & Public Protection
Department of Environmental Services
PO Box 270

If possible, please respond prior to the 14th June 2010, but certainly before the 15th July.

Yours faithfully,
