Joan Flannery 1928 - 2022It is with great sadness we inform you that Joan Flannery died in UCLH hospital at 11am on Wednesday, 15th June 2022 in UCLH hospital. She slipped peacefully away leaving her son Marc and three grandsons, Nathan, Kieran and Joseph.Joan was born a Liverpudlian in 1928 moving to London in 1948 where, among other roles, became the Landlady of the 'Three Greyhounds' Pub in Soho during the 1950’s. When Marc was born in 1960 they found themselves living in a one bedroom flat in Old Street where she had the support of wonderful friends and neighbours. On returning to work at the GPO (now BT), Joan was soon able to move onto Golden Lane Estate, first to Hatfield House in 1969 before downsizing to Great Arthur House in 1984 when Marc left home.Anyone who knew Joan would remember her as a fiercely determined and the driving force behind the Golden…See More
Hi Wendy. I'm Rob (who directed the video shot earlier this year on the estate). I'm sending out DVDs today. Could you please email me the best address for me to send the copy to? My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks so much to all the residents for allowing the shoot to go ahead. I hope they like the film! Here is a great photo of the estate taken by our photographer. Feel free to use it for whatever you like but please credit OlliverMustillPhotography where possible. Thanks again! Rob.
I think it would be useful to meet when you are available next week. Daniel suggests using the space under Bowater to create a store similar to Basterfield and Bayer. However, as you know, bikes have recently been stolen from Bayer (including my own), and I think improved security would be necessary to make the stores usable. At the moment the only bikes left are the unused/broken ones. I don't see a way to improve security other than an additional key/swipe control on the door.
Just received a letter announcing that all bikes attached to railings in corridors etc will be removed.
I know this is necessary for health and safety reasons (as well as being clearlly stated in the leases etc). But I wonder have any alternative places been looked at for leaving bikes under cover.
They do exist on the estate.
I mentioned a while ago the space under Bowater which is currently empty. In other blocks (Bayer and Basterfiled these spaces are used for bikes). Could it not be opened up here too?
Are there any developments on this?
Please let me know if I can help in any way
