Save Bernard Morgan House

City of London

I have found out from the Housing Office that the shed money that is allocated for estate improvements will be forfeited if it is not allocated by the start of April. This would be a waste and I would be grateful for any ideas how it might be used that we could submit on behalf of GLERA.

I know that improvements to the backs of the shops under Crescent House have been suggested in the past. My suggestion would be a redesign and rationalisation of all the signage on the Estate as all the different signs is a mess.

My understanding is that the money has to be used for a physical improvement.

About three years ago the topic came up for discussion at a couple of GLERA meetings. There were a number of ideas put forward to the then Chairman.

After much heated debate (mostly with the Chairman) I don't think anything happened.

Rather a shame.

Tim - rather slow to this but I think new signage would be a huge improvement (has long been a bugbear of mine - new signs appear indiscriminately and superseded ones hang around far too long). Would be really happy to help put together a proposal for this.

I would support the rationalisation of the signage. The original signage and direction signage was distinctive and excellent; almost  everything that has been added since, (including the massive CoL crests) detracts from the architecture. I really like what they did with the signage at the Spa Green Estate nearby in St John's Street which took the spirit and colouring of Lubetkin's plans as a starting point. I attach a screenshot. They managed to condense numerous disparate signs into just a few well-designed points which has enhanced appreciation of the estate.
