A Proposal for the RSC site redevelopment, please comment.

This is a project for the redevelopment of the RSC site. It more or less fits the requirements for a school and 60-70 council flats proposed for the site. The main features are a new sunken court, as big as Basterfield Lawn, into which the school will be built on three sides, and a new tower block similar in size to Great Arthur House and using the panels that have been developed to re-clad the existing tower. This will mean that the roofline of the school can be lower by a storey, and there will be savings in the cost of cladding the new tower.

Hi Fred

Is this your proposal- nothing to do with Hawkins Brown?

You state the school is on 3 sides of a sunken court (playground?) but GldnLne:RSC.Gnrl.Wst.Vw.JPG, seems to only show new school buildings on the East and North.  Am I missing something?

Brilliant!!!

It's like we've returned from the grave! A brave new world of social housing, and in the current apocalypse who knows? It could even happen.

Will the tower be called Guinevere? Or "The Other Arthur"?
Arthur and Martha?

Merlin?

My version:

posted elsewhere on this site.

Excellent. Has to be called Martha though.

Ian,

I'm just back from hols. Yes, the third (west) side of the sunken court is a roof over a hall, which gets extra head room within like the old bar in the Community Centre which is sunk about a metre down from the garden level. I'm about to do some more work on the scheme, so I'll keep everyone posted,

Fred

Eva, thanks for your response. It means a lot to me,

Hi Fred,

Sorry, I've only just seen this but your proposal seems to be a far more sensible solution, of course. However, the way the cost of both school and tower block is soaring -literally - the whole scheme may be too ambitious to be viable..
