It appears that the City are backtracking on the proposal to crush the waste concrete on site with a machine working 4 hours a day for 5 days a week for 6 weeks with a noise output of between 93 and 102 decibels when the limit that they are supposed to be working to is 75 decibels.
Following a GLERA lead campaign the Project team have thought again and we can breath a sigh of relief that it will not be happening.
We have said all along that we support social housing and a school on the site but we did not support the poor design that they are building. However we accept that it is going to get built and from the point of view of surrounding residents the sooner the better so the the disruption does not go on for too long.
The focus of the project team seems to be getting the project finished on time at all costs and it requires all our vigilance to make sure that they are not doing this at the expense of residents and community relations.

Current activity on the site appears to involve taking the spoil heap scoop by scoop and spreading it on the ground where three men in protective suits and respirators rake through it by hand whilst spraying it with a high pressure water jet. It is not clear what they are looking for.
This activity is not described in the demolition statement, or the weekly updates. The longer these spoil piles remain on site and the more they are transferred around the greater the risk of contamination of the environment. Several people have contacted us concerned about the presence of asbestos in the spoil heaps. We have today written to the CoLPAI Team to urgently ask what they are doing and why?
