I might had a spare tripod that you can have Paul?    Will check later.

Steve.

Steve you are an all round good egg.

Paul I bought a Manfrotto (got a deal on it when I bought a telescope many moons ago).  It is beautifully engineered, but it's pretty heavy and they are expensive.  I did a couple of photography courses earlier this year and they had quite lightweight tripods for the students to use which I think were about £30/40 according to the lecturer.  They're probably fine if you're not a professional photographer.  If Steve doesn't sort you out I can ask the lecturer for the brand name if that would help.  Given I'm pretty small weight is an issue for me, camera/lenses/tripod can get heavy if carried around all day!  I have a very lightweight cheapo Dixons one I take on holiday which telescopes down to about 15 inches and up to about four feet, but it's a tad flimsy so wouldn't take any big telephoto lenses for birdwatching etc.

I'm sure Steve's advice will be far more profesh than mine however!

Cheers Jean!     I had a telescope as well Jean, as I was mad on astronomy as a nipper!   I currently use a Velbon tripod, but Manfrotto are the "real deal"!  My Velbon is quite heavy, so it`s good for weight training lol!    Have had a look for the my spare tripod, but it may have been lost/discarded when I moved here?

Thanks.

If you have the name of a cheapish tripod, that would be very helpful.

Thanks

Paul

Never tried this make myself, but the price, and reviews look encouraging Paul?

I've dropped her a note Paul, I'll let you know when she replies.

Hi Paul.  The tutor has said "they are a Velbon brand and seem to be pretty durable and a reasonable weight and price. The model we have is (I think) CX-540 and cost around £35 - although there are a number of very similar Velbon ones which vary slightly in height, cost and weight etc."

Hope that helps.

Best

p.s. No joy Paul...........it must have gotten lost in my moving here!

Thanks for your help. I have bought one from Currys PC World in Chiswell Street which has a good selection.

Paul

Excellent Paul.   Hope it does the job for you?

Steve.
