‘Social Isolation in the City of London – Research Project’

Dear Residents of the Golden Lane Estate

I have been commissioned by the City of London to undertake a research project examining to what extent loneliness and social isolation exists amongst older people living in the City of London, what may be its causes and to gather practical examples and ideas for combating this social phenomena.

I am looking to interview residents of the Golden Lane Estate to discuss whether, for example, you ever have or do feel lonely, such as being alone in your flat or house, not going out very much; not speaking to or seeing many other people during the course of a day; you have few or no friends or family living nearby; perhaps have feelings that nobody cares about you; and/or you have recently been bereaved.

Also if you did have any of these feelings and have overcome them what helped you overcome them? Was it, for example, joining an estate social club or activity? Or getting involved in a social activity elsewhere?

Alternatively if you have never or rarely experienced loneliness what factors do you think prevented this happening?

If you are interested in discussing any of these issues with me then please contact me to arrange a time for me to come and interview you. The interviews are completely confidential, or alternatively email me with your thoughts and experiences.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the welcome David.

I wonder if anyone can help me with the following

This is to introduce myself as a researcher who is undertaking a research project commissioned by the City of London looking at loneliness and social isolation amongst older people living within the City.

I wonder if it would be possible to bring the attached information sheet to the notice of residents of the estate either via your website, on notice boards or by word of mouth.

If you are aware of any residents who would appear to be lonely and they would be okay for me to contact them please pass on their contact details to me.

Please contact me if you require any further information about the project.

Thank you
