Anyone else suffering from condensation/mould problems?!
Tags:
Hi Shane. May I firstly ask, if you don't mind, if you are a tenant or leaseholder? If you are a tenant then the COL have a 'care of duty' towards you, and should be responsible for the cost of the dehumidifier, and putting right any defects in your home that is causing all this. Secondly, by the sound of it, it may be your dehumidifier is too small for your flat. They come in various sizes, depending on how powerful they need to be for how much condensation problems they have to tackle. A 3 litre tank sounds a bit small. Mind you my one is 15 years old, and a bit of a 'whopper', but it really works. Its so wrong that any resident has to suffer these problems.
Yeah i'm a tenant. My flat is very small but the amount of condensation is not. I will be looking at my options.
Good luck Shane. Keep us posted.
Update 2.1.2014. Waites/Linbrook guy just made an inspection. Seems there is water damage, from a leak outside and separate condensation damage as well! So a further visit will be arranged to repair the damage, and put in new sealant, that can be painted over. He advised to keep an eye on the condensation issue and act upon it straight away, if it occurs again. A dehumidifier will also help, but may not cure the complete problem? Internal secondary glazing may help as well?
Hi Steve. What a problem for you. I so hope you get it sorted out. Nobody should have to suffer all that. Obviously, a dehumidifier will only sort out the condensation issue, as the leaks are entirely different. Therefore, as the inspection showed, action will need to be taken if the condensation builds up again. This is where the COL will need to pay for the cost of a dehumidifier for you, as they have a 'responsibility of care' towards their tenants.
Exactly Christine.
Will be speaking to another resident about it next week as well.

Which is if you can a) afford to put in second glazing in or b) are able to DIY

At least I know the problems now eh Maria. Will be phoning Waites on Monday to arrange a suitable appointment time. As soon as I see a hint of condensation.........I'll be on it with kitchen towels haha.

Oddly, I have been living here for three and a half years, but the probs only started about a couple of months ago?!
hear, hear, agree with the majority of what you say, and regarding your cynicism, its merited.
Just as a matter of interest , I am curious as to what your suggestions might be for the role of tenants in this, as you state "leaseholders in Crescent House".
Finally cured my mould problems for good...............I hope??? The mould spray (purchased from Amazon for around a fiver) was brill! Still needed to repaint the area though and bought a dehumidifier as well. Hopefully, that will stop the severe condensation problems that I was getting, from ever coming back!!!
