In light of the recent burglaries and muggings, in and around the Estate, It still amazes me that Residents or Landlords who sublet their dwellings to Students, still let in anyone who wants to enter the blocks come in!!!

We had the RNIB cold calling yesterday evening, I asked how they got into our block, they said "people were coming out and they let us in"!!!  I would like to suggest to Bill Clifford and I will make a point of reporting this to the Estate Office staff, that a sign should be put in place at the entry of each block to state no Cold Calling, or to remind Residents not to let in Pizza leafleters or anyone who has no right to gain entry, after all if the CoL Police are asking us to be vigilant, shouldn't this be heeded?

Unfortunately our Block is the only building without an updated entry system, and the entry doors are frequently open, I really do feel action should be taken on this!!!

Totally agree!

So do I.  Am fed up with the fact that some let in those delivering pizza, Chinese leaflets etc, and when I ask them to leave, as its private property, they always argue with me!  And, don't get me started on the Jehovah's Witnesses!  Who, on earth, lets them in the building?  I am sick of having to ask people to leave who have no right to be here, simply because someone let them in.  I never let anyone in behind me, unless I know them, or they have a recognisable fob.  Is it not just common sense?  Also, I maintain a sort of 'roof garden', and have had several thefts from it.  Obviously, I can not be certain if it came from unauthorised entrants, but surely it does help if those people are not allowed into the building in the first place.

I have put up notices, as given to me by the Estate office, on the entrance doors to Crescent House, clearly stating that 'Hawkers were not allowed', but, over time, they have been ripped down.  I think a more permanent sign is needed, although, sadly, some will probably ignore that too.

Unfortunately it's hard to stop people from entering. Last week, as I arrived at the entrance there was a guy there looking as though he might be fumbling for his key but not really doing so. I asked if he was a resident and waved at the sign about not letting in strangers. Despite saying that I wouldn't let him in as I'd never seen him before, another resident opened the door from inside, so the man outside ignored me and walked straight through!

Yes, I agree, we should give it a good try.  I still have some paper signs the Estate Office gave me, so will stick them up again, but we do need permanent ones, that people cannot rip down.  Yesterday, a pizza leaflet came through my door.  As it does!  Surely, whoever let the person in could clearly see they were carrying these leaflets!  I have many times asked these leaflet deliverers to leave, only to find them on the next floor!  So, I have escorted them off the premises.  But, get fed up with it.  It is a good idea to send all residents, as Bijou suggests, a letter about these security issues.  I believe this was done some time ago, but maybe a few people need to be reminded of the obvious!
