How would that work here? I thought Golden Lane Estate was 49% lease holders, and a few of them have told me their wish is as soon as they get 50% or more lease holders they will have the estate managed as a private estate, excuse me if this sound ignorant but I am when it comes to bureaucracy and the law, what would it mean for social tenants?
One lease holder in Hatfield House was putting it about that the lease holders could bunch together and buy some social tenants out to take their numbers beyond 50%, as was a neighbour and lease holder.
Would Tenant Management mean I would get the hole my roof repaired? It's approaching a decade of the same roofer every year, sometimes twice a year to coming to "repair" the same hole. Some of the residents including myself up here in Crescent House know him by his first name now. I was thinking of putting a bench with his name embossed on a brass plaque on the roof. One of the apparatchiks from the Corp told me just last week that it was a very hard and stressful for the roofer, as he would like to ,"do a good job and stop the leaks to", it sounded like he was on the verge of breakdown, because of the mental hell my hole was putting him through, I told him It was even more difficult and stressful living beneath the leaks, and if I didn't keep the mould in check I would be harvesting mushrooms in the flat, (probably non-organic due to the amount of asbestos used in the flats), besides that he's had nearly ten years experience of staring into my hole, and still hasn't managed to plug it, I once saw a movie with George Clooney, "The Men Who Stare at Goats", and thought maybe he's using the same techniques on my hole by way of telekinesis or some sort of secret craft.
Does any one know the full name of the company he works for, I vaguely remember it was Avalon something?
There are loads of companies on google called Avalon.
“It’s the only ward where Labour would stand a chance of winning – they’d never get traction elsewhere,” said one person at the City of London Corporation.
Now isn't that an interesting quote. I would hardly call it independent. Let's be honest, the City is not remotely left wing or independent and anyone who claims (or is deluded in thinking) that it isn't well to the right of centre or doesn't work in the interests of big business is fooling themselves and/or trying to fool us. For example, beware of TTIP (http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/dec/02/transatlantic-...)
Christine you are right we are a bit supine but it is hard to muster against such big guns in the City. The COL, an outrageously wealthy local authority, should be wholly ashamed of themselves for letting a Grade II estate lapse into such a state of disrepair. Re the hospital closures proposals by Mr Hunt, you can sign up to 38 degrees (http://www.38degrees.org.uk/) to campaign.
Nathan, I'm a leaseholder and I've not heard of such a plan, and it would not get my support. I like the social mix (except when the COL foist 'problem' tenants on us and then do nothing about their anti-social behaviour).
Have you tried plugging the hole in your roof with goat hair?
Is that some kind of pagan devil worshipping masonic ritual, Helios and Apollyon, the beast from the pit, the destroyer? Sun Worship and the insertion of things where the sun does not shine? Goat hair plugging my hole ? I would try this, if it stopped the leak, but it sounds eye watering and I am fearful that my soul would burn in eternal hell fire , but on second thoughts it might be warmer there than living in this flat.
Eddy Stephens isn't too bothered concerning the living conditions in some of the flats on this estate, he said at the last residents 2 hour meeting , "I would die happy if my legacy was that I had built more social housing for Our children to live in". I think he referred to the Tower of Babel the Corp is planning to build on top of Petticoat Square Estate, the same project that helped William Campbell-Taylor come to power by virtue of the fact that the Corp thought they could slide the monstrosity under the radar past the residents and turn the estate into a perpetual building site as it has been recently. I somehow think Mr Stephens children won't be living in any of his social housing legacy.
You need only look at the architecture on Petticoat Square and Mansel Street estates to appreciate the architecture on Golden Lane Estate, even if you are not a connoisseur in the field of architecture. The flats on these estates are more habitable regarding heat and damp, double glazing and insulation. Its a pity the architects/engineers can't seem to combine the two, architectural aesthetics and the practicalities of heat and warmth and every day living in the same projects.
Yep, your posts are brill Nathan. I wonder what our very own "M.E.P" thinks of this politically???
