Hello everyone!

My name is William Pimlott and I am one of the prospective candidates for your vote and I felt it was best to introduce myself here.

I am standing as a Labour party candidate (along with my brilliant colleague Mary Durcan) and Golden Lane residents' interests are at the heart of our campaign. We stand fully behind the RCS campaign, fully behind attempts to stop the disastrous new Bernard Morgan House development, and want to fight for better maintenance of the estate (fewer delays, stop spiralling costs, introduce outside scrutiny and better, and more honest, communication).

Every vote counts to try and elect councillors who care and listen to Golden Lane. We want to hear everything you have to say and have knocked on every door in the estate at least once.

If elected we will hold regular surgeries and try to represent residents as best we can.

Hello

Thank you for the introduction.  I totally agree that us Golden Lane Estate residents desperately need someone who genuinely cares about our estate, because we have been let down in the past.  Personally, I will be voting for Sue Pearson, who actually lives on our estate, and who really cares about our interests.  I understand you are also a new candidate.  The one thing I can say is 'new blood' is needed, as sadly us residents on Golden Lane appear not to have anyone who lives here and who is totally for us residents, and not 'in the pockets' of the City of London.

Dear Maria,

Thank you for your reply. I hope I would be "new blood", and remember you can vote for more than one candidate (11 candidates are standing for 8 places).

Thank you William.  May I ask, are you a candidate who puts us residents first, and not the City of London Corporation's views?

Hi William,

Thanks for your introductory email.

I do recall seeing you and your team actively canvassing the residents and local businesses on and around Golden Lane, which shows your dedication and interest for Golden Lane. I am pleased that you are open that you are a Labour Party member, rather than portraying to be an "independent" candidate - many whose views and actions over time have clearly shown that they are not truly independent.

My votes will go to Golden Lane based candidates, Susan, and Gareth, and those candidates who have openly declared their true political affiliations, including yourself and Mary.

I want candidates like yourself who are prepared to stand up for the issues that count to residents within the City, to increase the weighting of the residential voters, better facilities for the disabled, reduction in service charges by 75% for all pensioners on pension credit, or even zero, and those on low income (use government rates to calculate low income), better access to all buildings, electric scoter points at ground level for all buildings, more residents on street parking bays including disabled bays. City to calculate its Carbon emissions for all of its buildings, provide for free to all City residents the latest LED light bulbs, all City estates and buildings to use the latest LED lighting, the cost will be recouped within a year through lower electrical bills. City to use electric cars for its staff including the Lord Mayor, diesel car scrappage scheme for all City residents, Respro face masks available to all residents via the Neman Medical Practice, a health levy to be charged to all City businesses to provide extra doctors and staff at the Neman Practice, all new buildings to be carbon neutral, all city estates to have solar, wind, ground source energy - with the carbon footprint calculated for communal services, triple glazing for all residential buildings as standard - free for those affected by external noise pollution such as from the proposed Richard Cloudesley School site, consider the reopening of the roof garden on Great Arthur House - to be fully funded and maintained by the City and its charities. Compel City businesses to confirm that they have not discriminated against women when allocating their votes, and for City businesses to confirm that have allocated votes to all sections of their business including those on low wages. Start to reduce the business vote. All new developments within the City to contain a fixed percentage of truly affordable accommodation for key workers, affordable rent, and social rent. City to set by a new Housing Association which will be endowed by the City with buildings that can be converted to provide social housing within the City boundary - such as the ex-YMCA building, Roman House, Bernard Morgan House.

All elected official to declare any City business affiliations that they have prior to election and after election.

Follow the Governments Cross Party Select Committee recommendations on councillors pay, and ensure that all councillors are paid. This will widen the pool of prospective candidates for all future elections, without discriminating those on a low income. It will also reduce the average age of candidates, at present it is over 60yerars. Appoint an external body to consult with residents and examine how much other local authorities pay, begin paying elected official within the next twelve months, allocate permanent offices for officials within the Guildhall to allow officials to hold surgeries with the electors. If any official is against the payment of any allowances, you must be prepared to question why? and they should be offered the choice to have their allowance paid to the nearest City based community centre - such as Golden Lane.

That's four of my votes accounted for, I may or may not use the other four votes, the Wardmote may help me to decide...

Dear Maria,

Mary and myself would 100% put residents first, fighting for their interests in Guildhall.

Dear Hussain,

Thank you for taking the time to make these points. These issues with Housing and the Environment are central to our campaign, and are in our manifesto, but many of your ideas are important and we need to consider them. Thank you again.

Thank you William.  I asked the question as, sadly, in my experience, certain councillors have not done so, and even though they have been voted in by residents, they tend to vote in policies, set out by the City, to the detriment of the very people they are meant to stand up for.
