It's 23:33hrs and the police are here trying to get people to leave the bar below the Community Centre.

The police have visited the estate a number of time this evening because of the anti-social behaviour that has been going on since 19:00hrs: shouting, screaming and men peeing on cars outside the entrance to the Community Centre .

All in all a stressful night.

Is now 00:27 and people is still shouting outside the community cente bar. I appreciate it is August but some of us will like to sleep. Why can't police take off home these people?

What on earth is going on in the car park its 2:15am? I don't understand why nothing is happening ?

Where they shooting another episode of my big fat gypsy wedding?

I have heard from several people about the mayhem on Sunday night.  I am lucky in that I was no where near the fracas.  However, its a disgrace that this was allowed to happen, and so many residents were disturbed over many hours of the night.  It also caused a lot of distress.  I spoke to the Estate Office today, and they would like to hear from residents who were affected by this incident.  It is important to identify what went wrong, and why these anti social people were allowed to use the bar, and for management to make sure this never happens again.

My partner was in that evening (I was away) and was disturbed until after 3 am. She reports that, as well as creating noise, people who had apparently been at the Community Centre setup foldup chairs and between there and Great Arthur House and in the garden, threw at least one large object, urinated on/around the motor bikes and when, around 2 am, told to be quiet (from our balcony in Bayer House) they shouted back 'You shut up'.

She called the police, as well, and asked them what the point was of (around 10) officers being here if they just stand there. Apparently they had had about eight complaints. She was told the officers weren't taking any action as they were wary of things kicking off. Apparently they witnessed a urination incident and did nothing about it. It appears they didn't even talk to the people involved to encourage them to go home.

Overtime.

I duly reported our experience to the Estate Office and got a prompt, if rather non-committal reply. I think it would be appropriate for the Office to report to the residents on what happened, and indicate what steps the Community Centre committee in particular will be taking to better deal with (or avoid) such situations. Apart from anything, I'd like to know where the staff were who had been responsible for the Centre while the group was using it.

I have to agree with Tim and Nico. I don't understand why this is happening and I hope actions are being taken to avoid it. Maybe is time to ask for controls on who access the community centre bar and avoid sell alcohol to those who cause trouble.

Also I have to say that I felt left down by the actions of the Police. Instead of taking action and ask them to leave they just stood there without addressing the issue or enforcing the law. Really shameful to see that when there is an issue we are on our own.

Hi Nico.  I was was told by the Estate Office that Laurence Jones was 'dealing' with the issue.  However, as he was not affected personally by any of this mayhem, then I would have hoped that you would have got something better than a 'non committal reply.  I shall be taking this up with the rest of the Golden Lane Committee.  (Not to be confused with the Bar Committee, whoever they are.)

Thanks Maria. It wasn't actually Laurence who responded, but I was told:

Laurence is (and has been since we became aware of the occurrence) working with all concerned parties to ensure that controls are in place to avoid another situation like this

I will be interested to learn of any response from the Golden Lane Committee.
