Elections are due to take place for Common Council on 23 March 2017.
Those interested in standing for election should note that nominations to stand must be sumbitted by 28 February.
There is a ward mote (equivalent to a hustings) due to take place on the eve of the election. This provides an opportunity for candidates to explain their manifestos and answer questions.
However I would like to suggest that GLERA this year organises a hustings event ahead of this date.
There is a huge amount taking place on and around Golden Lane at the moment and the views of potential candidates are of considerable importance.

Thank you Paul for this. I agree that it is very important to hear the views of potential candidates, and it is vital that the interests of residents on Golden Lane Estate be served first, rather than that of the City of London. It is so important to have a Councillor who represents us, as its the residents who elect them, not the City.
Is there anywhere where I can find a list of candidates?
The list of candidates closes on Tuesday 28th February, after this date anyone can inspect the list at the Guildhall, just go to West Wing Reception, and ask for Electoral Services.
"Lists of Candidates
Electoral Services cannot give out information before the close of nominations on who has submitted their papers.
A Statement of Persons Nominated must be published by 2 March, but we will make the information available as soon as possible after close of nominations.
Candidates may withdraw by noon on 3 March. If papers have been submitted for more than one ward by a candidate they must withdraw from all but one of them by this deadline of they are withdrawn from all.

Many years ago there was chaos after the counting, as the Ward results were not announced in each of the Wards that they are relevant to, which is a legal requirement, I hope the City has drafted in enough counters for each individual Ward.
About 95% of the candidates "claim" to be Independents, however there is a strong Conservative/Business bias.
My vote will go to the candidate willing to speak up for residents of Cripplegate, especially those on Golden Lane, including any candidate/s who will lobby for the total cancellation of all service charges, or all service charges above £2,000.00, as it is the City of London Corporation's historic neglect that is the cause of the decay.
I also want a rabbit area for the children, maybe even a chicken area (no cockerels) which could also help residents experiencing social isolation to engage.
The present elected members for Cripplegate are:
John Alfred Barker, OBE, Deputy
David Andrew Graves (Alderman)
Stephen Douglas Quilter, BSc(Hons)
Not sure if they will all be standing for re-election again, they all state on their register of interest that they represent "Barbican Estate" in some way....
Golden Lane residential population has the "power" to change this, as long as we vote for the candidates "most" suited to the needs of Golden Lane.
Is there any community meeting planned, inviting all Cripplegate candidates to tell us how they will serve Golden Lane?

For what it's worth, my votes will not go to any candidate that has put their name/s in multiple wards, or any candidate that lives outside of the City boundary, it will potentially go to those candidates who have actively engaged with the communities at Golden Lane, those that live within Golden Lane, those that are prepared to show "their" own political allegiance, Labour, Conservatives etc, and not claim to be an "Independent", those that are prepared to challenge the City, to ensure more powers are granted to the residents of the City of London.
From my own conservations with residents on Golden Lane, they rightly want the City to retain a certain percentage of its rates, (council & business rates) to be spent on social projects, including free school places to all City children, at City of London Boys, or Girls, when the child reaches secondary school age - this is to correct the total lack of state secondary schooling within the City boarders.
All children, above 14,and all pensioners on pension credit, within the City boundary, to be granted free access to the Barbican, theatre, cinema, and Golden Lane gym, swimming pool. Free broadband to all on pension credit, and those families on low income - this is to reduce their social isolation.
Free after school club at least once a week for all children on Golden Lane. Free weekend tuition classes in essential subjects for all children on Golden Lane. The community centre could be used for these classes.
Place a service charge "cap" of a maximum of £5,000.00, and ensure that all pensioners on pension credit, or families on low income, are exempted.
Much more can be done, and will be done, if we collectively make over views known, use your votes to ensure that the candidates are truly your voice to the City.
To ensure that the following discriminatory term is not used in any future City elections:
Election of Common Councilmen
And to apologise to all women within the City for using such terms.
I wish all of the candidates the best.
